Automatic Transmission Service Step by step service guide on how to service an automatic transmission, this article pertains to most vehicles but was performed on a 2002-2007 Saturn Vue. Difficulty Scale: 3 of 10 Tools and Supplies Needed Transmission fluid Transmission filter service kit (if equipped) Socket set Fluid funnel Protective eyewear and gloves Helpful Information Changing the fluid in the automatic transmission in your vehicle promotes proper operation and helps the transmission last longer without failure. All car manufacturers have different service intervals for their particular transmission. In a typical transmission service, the fluid is completely flushed (including the torque converter), a filter is changed, the transmission pan is cleaned and a new pan gasket installed. Common Problems Premature transmission failure due to lack of maintenance, low fluid, dirty filter. Manual transmission: premature clutch failure due to abusive drivi...
Ford Engine TFI-IV System GENERAL INFORMATION See Figures 1 and 2 Fig. Fig. 1: TFI schematic Fig. Fig. 2: Exploded view of the TFI components The Thick Film Integrated (TFI-IV) ignition system uses a camshaft driven distributor with no centrifugal or vacuum advance. The distributor has a diecast base, incorporating a Hall effect stator assembly. The TFI-IV system module is mounted on the distributor base, it has 6 pins and uses an E-Core ignition coil, named after the shape of the laminations making up the core. The TFI-IV module supplies voltage to the Profile Ignition Pick-up (PIP) sensor, which sends the crankshaft position information to the TFI-IV module. The TFI-IV module then sends this information to the EEC-IV module, which determines the spark timing and sends an electronic signal to the TFI-IV ignition module to turn off the coil and produce a spark to fire the spark plug. The operation of the universal distributor is accomplished through the H...
Crankshaft Seal Replacement - Front Replacing Crankshaft Seal In Car Helpful Information An engine front crankshaft seal is mounted into the front timing cover which rides against the vibration dampener sealing surface. This seal controls oil from leaking to the outside of the engine, once the seal starts leaking it must be replaced. A harmonic balancer or dampener is the common term for a weighted unit used to help an engine run smoothly. Best Practices Always use top quality seals to avoid premature failure. Clean sealing surfaces to enhance sealing ability. Use high quality silicone sealer Step by step repair guide on how to replace an automotive engine crankshaft front seal. This replacement is for external mounted seals only and applies to most vehicles.
