Low oil pressure or loss of oil pressure can be caused by a low oil level in the crankcase, a worn or damaged oil pump, or worn engine bearings. Allow the engine to cool down for several hours before you attempt any further diagnosis. A hot engine can be very dangerous because of steam pressure inside the radiator and coolant reservoir. Do NOT attempt to add coolant until the engine has cooled down and the radiator cap or reservoir cap can be safely opened. 1999 Chevy cavalier... overheating especially when idle. Air con works while car moves but cutsoff when at a stop more like blows hot air. I think it's my fan, but could it be the thermostat? My radiator fan does not cut on. With the engine at idle, trans in park, turn on the air conditioner, open the hood behind (toward the rear of the car) the radiator there is a fan, it should be running if not then it could be a fuse, a bad relay or failed fan motor. You will have to diagnosis it. Get your fan working first but the thermostat could be a problem to seeing you may have overheated the engine. BAD PCM TROUBLESHOOT How can I be sure if my PCM is bad??? Couple weeks ago check engine light came on. Already had issues with ABS light and Traction Control light being on and removed ABS fuses to prevent false engagement of ABS system (I have seen this to be a common problem reported on ABS system). The plan was to replace the front hub assemblies with new ones that had new bearings and ABS sensors. After changing the first hub assembly, disconnected battery negative cable and reconnected after 30 minutes, started the vehicle and noticed no more Check Engine Light but ABS light still on. Decided to replace ABS fuses and disconnect battery NEG cable again for 30 minutes and try again. This time the vehicle would not start at all!! It would crank over fine, but no start. Seemed to have plenty of fuel pressure so checked spark, no spark!! Checked spark on 2 cylinders that use opposite coils in the coil back and neither has spark. Both, the 99 & 2000 are OBD2, so any OBD2 code reader will read the codes. How well they will do is a different story. There are code readers and scanners. If you plan on doing your own work, scanners are the best way to go. But, understand that most OBD2 scanners will not scan ABS or airbags.
