Arrow points to front Remove the air cleaner assembly, taking note of the hose locations. Disconnect the distributor wiring connector from the vehicle wiring harness. Noting the position of the vacuum line(s) on the distributor diaphragm, disconnect the lines at the diaphragm. Unsnap the two distributor cap retaining clamps and remove the cap, rotor and adapter. If it is necessary to disconnect ignition wires from the cap to get enough room to remove the distributor, make sure to label every wire and the cap for easy and accurate reinstallation. Rotate the engine to align any pole on the armature with the pole on the stator. Install the rotor. Using chalk or paint, carefully mark the position of the distributor rotor in relation to the distributor housing and mark the position of the distributor housing in relation to the engine block....

Distributor Replacement Safety Tip: Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes. 1 Park your vehicle on a solid, level surface and set the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool before working under the hood. 2 Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate the distributor mounted on the top of the engine connected to the spark plug wires. Photo may not be specific to your vehicle 3 Remove the distributor cap and set it aside with the plug wires still attached. 4 Disconnect the wiring harness and the vacuum advance hose if applicable. 5 Mark the location of the distributor and rotor on the engine block. Remove the distributor mounting bolt and clamp. Pull the distributor out of the engine block.
