Where is fuel pump relay located on bmw e34 520i

Image
Where is  fuel pump relay located on bmw e34 520i It is not in the fusebox. It is in the e-box on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The Bentley Manual shows the fuel pump relay in the box on the passenger side of the car under the hood. Looking toward the drivers side the pump relay is the second on from the passenger side. It is fuse #23. Looking at the bottom of the relay the pins clock wise from 12 o'clock are 30-87-85-86. The third one from the passenger side is the main relay. It is usually white. "The main relay is energized via the DME engine control module and supplies power to many of the DME components and subsystems, including the fuel pump relay. If this relay is faulty, the engine will not start." the ecu is also located on this same box? On the right under a black plastic cover with 4 screws, the blue one in the middle is F/P relay.  The main ECU (Engine Control Unit) relay, fuel pump relay and oxygen sensor hea...

How to Replace a Fuel Pump Assembly

Image
Fuel Pump Assembly Replacement Safety Tip: Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes. 1 Park the vehicle on a solid, level surface and set the parking brake. 2 Open the fuel door and remove the filler cap. Have an assistant turn the key to the ON position while you listen for a hum coming from the filler opening. If there is no sound, the fuel pump may need to be replaced. 3 Check the fuel pump fuse and relay. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for the exact locations. 4 If the fuse and relay are good, check for power and ground at the fuel pump. Removing the rear seat or the fuel tank may be necessary. If the fuel tank needs to be removed, siphon or drain as much fuel as possible from the tank. Use proper safety precautions and store the fuel in an approved container. 5 For vehicles with an access cover, remove the rear seat ...

How A Fuel Pump Works?

Image
Fuel Pump Working Of A Car Fuel Pump Helpful Information A fuel injection system is more efficient than its predecessor, the carburetor , and can better operate in extreme conditions. Electric fuel pumps can experience wear and tear on the armature, brushes or bearings, which causes a gradual loss of pressure. An inlet filter sock is designed to block tank sediments. Running the fuel pump out of gas can cause premature failure. Best Practices Inspect the fuel tank for sediment when  replacing the pump . To extend pump life replace the  fuel filter  at regular intervals. Service the  throttle body and idle control valve  when replacing the fuel filter. Step by step explanation on how an automotive fuel pump works. This article pertains to most fuel injected vehicles. Step 1  - A fuel pump starts by being submerged inside of a fuel tank which is common among all fuel injected vehicles. The sump holds fuel near the pump inlet. Fuel Pum...

Fuel Pump Test

Image
How To Test Vehicle Fuel Pump And Fuel Pressure Regulator Helpful Information Some vehicles are not designed with a fuel pressure test port, in which case a fuel filter adapter must be used for the gauge connection. A fuel pressure regulator is controlled by a diaphragm and spring combination in conjunction with intake manifold vacuum. When a fuel pressure regulator diaphragm ruptures, it allows raw fuel to enter the vacuum feed line and into the engine. This condition creates a rich  black smoke  from the tail pipe on start up and while running. Remove the vacuum line from the regulator, if fuel is present, the regulator has failed. Some GM (CPI Injection) are designed with an internal regulator in which the intake manifold must be removed to access. Most fuel pressure regulators are on the top of the fuel rail. If you cannot locate the fuel pressure regulator consult a  repair manual . Tool and Supplies Needed Fuel pressure gauge kit Protective eyewe...

Fuel Pump Replacement

How To Replace Vehicle Fuel Pump Helpful Information Some manufacturers provide an access door to service the fuel pump, be sure to research this information before beginning. To test for a fuel pump failure a  fuel system pressure test  must be performed. Sometimes the the driveshaft must be removed along with the fuel tank. The automotive engine is designed to operate on a specific fuel system pressure which is vital to  engine performance . To maintain a constant pressure, the  fuel pump  is located in the fuel tank and is comprised of an electric motor coupled to a small internal vein style pump. Fuel pumps have a pressure relief valve that allows fuel to bypass while recalculating inside the fuel tank. Direct injection fuel pumps utilize an internal pressure regulator, while having only one liquid fuel line routed to the engine as opposed to two, (pressure and return lines.) When the ignition key is turned the fuel pump relay engages while suppl...
