1
Start the engine and step on the clutch pedal to verify proper operation. If there are no noises and the clutch appears to be working, road test your vehicle.
2
While driving, accelerate and watch the engine's RPM gauge or listen to the engine speed. If the RPM gauge or engine speed increases and the vehicle does not, the clutch may be slipping.
3
Park the vehicle on a solid, level surface and set the parking brake. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4
Lift up the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands to gain full access to the transmission. Lift up the rear of the vehicle if necessary.
5
Support the engine with a hoist (recommended) or place a jack under the oil pan and use a piece of wood to spread the load.
6
For rear wheel drive vehicles, remove the transmission shifter knob or lever so the transmission shifter will go through the center console and floor board.
7
Remove the driveshaft.
8
Disconnect the clutch linkage.
9
Disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission.
10
Unbolt the starter from the housing on the engine. If disconnecting the electrical connections, be sure to mark which terminals the wires were removed from.
11
Disconnect all electrical connections from the transmission housing.
12
Place a jack under the rear of the transmission housing and slightly support the transmission with some pressure.
13
Remove the bolts from the transmission mount to the transmission.
14
Remove the transmission cross member from the frame.
15
Remove the bolts from the transmission bell housing to the engine block and slowly lower the jack to slide the transmission away from the engine and off the locating dowels.
16
Look for marks on the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing when removed and reinstalled. If no marks are present, scribe or use white out to mark the flywheel and pressure plate before removal.
17
Insert the clutch alignment tool and remove the pressure plate bolts from the flywheel.
18
With the pressure plate removed, inspect the clutch lining for wear or burning.
19
Using the clutch alignment tool, align the new clutch disc to the pressure plate and the flywheel. Torque the retaining bolts evenly to fasten the pressure plate to the flywheel. Remove the alignment tool.
20
Using a floor jack, support the transmission and raise it back into place making sure the bolt holes and alignment dowels line up. Attach transmission to engine block.
21
Connect all the electrical connectors, hydraulic lines and cables back to the transmission.
22
Attach the transmission mount to the transmission and then tighten the cross member to the frame rails.
23
Torque the transmission bell housing bolts to specification and fill the transmission with required transmission fluid.
24
Road test vehicle to make sure vehicle shifts and drives properly with no slipping or disengaging.
