How to Replace a Splash Guard Backing Plate

Splash Guard Backing Plate Replacement

Safety Tip:
Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes.

1
Make sure the vehicle is parked on a solid level surface to ensure that it does not roll or lean when raised.
2
Use a jack to raise the front of the vehicle.
3
Secure the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. Do not rely on the jack to hold the vehicle up while working.
4
Turn the wheel to the left or right to gain full access to the splash guard backing plate.
5
Inspect the guard/plate for cracks that could cause vibration and noise or bending that could rub on moving parts and cause noise.
6
Remove the guard/plate by loosening the mounting bolts on the back of the hub.
7
Replace with the new splash guard/plate.
8
Tighten the mounting bolts to secure the splash guard/plate in place. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
9
Road test the vehicle to verify repairs.
